“With the utmost love and attention the man who walks must study and observe every smallest living thing, be it a child, a dog, a fly, a butterfly, a sparrow, a worm, a flower, a house, a man, a tree, a hedge, a snail, a mouse, a cloud, a hill, a leaf, or no more than a discarded scrap of paper on which, perhaps, a good child at school has written the first clumsy letters”. – Robert Waiser (The Walk)
How often do you look, really look and notice the small things around you. I believe that we can all improve our inspiration, our happiness, our life, by taking the time to observe the little things around us. Quite often these little gems are right there in front of us and we are too consumed with the day to day to notice them. I know all too well what that is like. I was too consumed with my life in the ‘corporate world’ to notice anything at all around me outside my work environment. It was as though I was numb to everything except my work. I was reminded by my family that I had lost my love of life. It has taken time, but I have that love of life back and part of that is making time everyday for walking and looking. Looking with childlike fascination at everything around me.
What can you do today to change how you see the world? What can you do today to change your routine so that you notice the little things around you?
You will be surprised how much more alive you feel by taking as little as half and hour a day to take a walk and look around you. Walk down a different street. Walk in the opposite direction, if you are used to walking in a particular routine, and notice that you see the surrounds in a very different way. Walk at a different time of day and notice how the light can completely change the look of the same things you have seen before. Walk in the rain and listen to the spashing of the water on the ground or onto your umbrella. It is relaxing. This simple exercise will clear your mind and you may find the clarity you have been looking for in one or more areas of your life. You may let in even more creative and wonderful ideas.
Be open to noticing every little thing and be open to the change that you will experience.
