The past few weeks I have been interviewing speakers for a book I’m publishing early next year. I thought this would be a great time to share 3 of the most common threads that have been mentioned.
1. Speak when ever and where ever you can. Book yourself on any stage and start speaking. No matter what the occasion put yourself forward and start getting experience. This is the best training you can have, your competence will grow from this.
All speakers I’ve spoken to have started from this place of not being confident, making mistakes and then learning from the mistakes.
2. Let go of being a perfectionist. Remember that you are improving all the time and by practicing you will become even more confident and skilled. No one starts out being the very best. It’s counterproductive comparing yourself to the best in the world at the beginning of your career.
3. Attend as many speaking gigs as you can to learn from the experts. Take away from their presentations what you believe suits your style and put it into action.
Let me know some of your stories.
