Yes, I know, it’s the second blog this week, but I just had to share.
Earlier today something interesting happened.
I was working at home in Melbourne, and I was not as productive as I could have been. This is something I am really aware of, as I usually have a lot to do and not enough hours in any given day!
I was stuck. That word is rather coachy would you agree? Stuck to me is having a lot to do and not getting on with it. I know what needs to be done because I work to a plan and I was not doing any of it. I also know that changing my energy will get me ‘unstuck’. I believe most people have times or days like this.
What was interesting was this … I was stuck and the little voice in my head was saying, go to the beach.
You know you want to go.
No! What are you thinking of?
Should you really walk away from your office?
Do you have time for this?
Is this the best use of your time right now?
Just get on with working and stop thinking about doing something else.
You can be productive by staying here.
Why do you need to go driving when you have things to do?
Then I made the decision. I was going!
This is the interesting part … I was suddenly more productive. I wrote a list of things to do in the next hour and then I would pack a small bag, my portable office, and drive to the Great Ocean Road.
This is something I’ve done many times so I have a simple and quick way of packing exactly what I’ll need as a portable office and I jumped in the car.
The drive to Lorne is about 2 hours from Melbourne. In that 2 hours my mind was busy in a creative way. Just before Lorne I stopped the car, took my shoes off and walked on the beach and paddled in the water.
BLISS!!
Why I was procrastinating and letting in the thoughts reasoning as to why I should not go baffled me. After all this time in business I know this is exactly what I need to do to get back into being productive and enjoying life at the same time.
Life is short.
The exact reason I have chosen a laptop lifestyle is so that I can work from anywhere. I support my clients to do the same. If getting out and enjoying the outdoors works for you, or if there is something else that gives you a buzz, just do it!
Mix it up!
Do what your instincts tell you.
Do more of what you love.
Do more of what lights you up.
Live each day to the fullest.
I’ve only been away for a few hours and I feel as though I’ve been on a holiday for a week! I made the right decision.
