Grounding or Earthing is something that is spoken about more and more. It refers to connecting with the Earth electrically.
The health benefits are numerous according to the many studies being documented.
Unfortunately, with our modern rubber or plastic soled shoes and our lifestyle arrangements, we no longer have a natural electrical connection to the Earth, unless we walk or stand barefoot.
I have known about grounding for some time and it was not until earlier this year whilst in India that a doctor shared the benefits with me.
Some of the benefits he listed where:
- Improved sleep
- Improved digestion
- Reduction of stress and anxiety
- Improved circulation
- Reduced inflammation
This small list seemed to me to be all positive. So each morning I took my cup of herbal tea and wandered down the concrete stairs to the grass in and stood barefoot for 20 minutes to half an hour.
The benefits of the list above were not immediately evident, however I did feel as though I had slowed down for the time I stood barefoot. It was think time, and time for meditation, mantras, and reflection. The feeling of the cool, dewy grass felt wonderful and reminded me of my childhood of running, playing and sitting on grass. It was time without conversation, computers or my phone and all that seemed like a wonderful reason to keep grounding each day.
For me this is a great feeling a wonderful way to start each day. If I feel good, that’s enough reason to keep going.
You may choose to do some more research or just be willing to give it a go and feel it for yourself.
Take your shoes off, stand on the grass, walk on sand, wiggle your toes or just stand still.
Take time for you!
