The path to success can take many twists and turns and you may often ask yourself if you are ever going to get there. Whether that is success when you are starting out or whether you have been in business for some time now and feeling the challenges of getting to a higher level of success.
I wasn’t always successful. In fact I took years to get my business off the ground and to a place that was sustainable and then I challenged myself to lift to an even higher level of success by setting goals that were scary and then setting up an action plan to work toward achieving the goals.
Successful people have strategies, goals, habits and structure to keep them on track and to keep then achieving their goals. Less successful people tend to not have the habits, not take up opportunities and not take more action than they believe they should and not set high enough goals.
1. Focus on your goals.
Set your goals and focus on them by reading them every single day. Take it a step further and write down your goals every day. It is the focus that is equally as important as writing out your goals. Successful people read their goals more often than less successful people. By starting each day with the focus on your goals you are much more likely to achieve them. No matter how large or small your goals, by having a focus on them you will work toward them even without consciously thinking about them.
2. Live outside your comfort zone.
Learn to be comfortable about being uncomfortable. Nothing will be achieved if you continue to live in your comfort zone where you never stretch yourself to a higher level. Think about the times when you have accomplished something new, or challenged yourself to do something different. You most likely felt a wobble or felt uncomfortable doing the thing you did not know how to do. Embrace new challenges head on and be prepared to fail while you learn. Being outside your comfort zone is where you learn and grow, so be prepared to live in that space.
3. Model others.
There is no need to reinvent the wheel! There are many people who have come before you and have been successful, and I’m sure, within your industry. You do not have to pave the way and learn everything new when you can simply model what others have done. Choose a role model, someone who has achieved what you want to achieve (or there may be more than one person). Learn all you can about this person and the model they have used to become successful. Implement their strategies into your business. You are not them, and you will never be them, however you can learn from them and how they have achieved success.
4. Fail fast.
Firstly accept that there will be failure. Successful people experience failure the same as anyone else. Instead of being focused on the failure or the loss, successful people learn from failure (what not to do or what to do) and move on quickly to the next challenge or goal.
Also learn to take risks. If you accept that there will be failure you will also learn to take risks and know that it’s ok to fail. There is a saying, feel the fear and do it anyway, and another saying that is say yes and work out how. You can turn the fear of failure into positive energy by continually making decisions, taking action and moving forward, even when there is failure.
5. Take massive action.
Successful people stay focused and continue to take action even when others would give up. Learn to take more action than you believe you need to. Take up more opportunities, do more of the stuff you don’t want to do, the tough stuff. Learn to lift your energy and be prepared to do more than anyone else.
Others will be giving up while you are forging ahead. Tap into your energy and drive and stay focused on your goals and do five times more or ten times more than you believe you need to. Be relentless in working toward your goals.
Let go of any fear and self doubt and go for it. Stand out. Be the person or business that others notice because you are doing more. Never give up. Never ever give up. Keep going no matter what.
