All too often people talk about building their business so they can live their dream life, and what happens is, they end up working long hours and forget all about the plan they had for themselves. You get into the routine of the everyday running of your business and it starts to feel as though you may as well be working for someone else exchanging time for money.
A very small percentage of people achieve success in business let alone have their dream life!
Make the time to dream.
Make the time to dream BIG dreams and then give yourself a stretch. Dream even bigger dreams. There is no need to know how your dream is going to come to fruition at this very point. Allow yourself time, without an agenda, to give your mind the space it needs to dream. Dream with childlike excitement and enthusiasm.
When clients start working with me, they work on designing their dream life and their perfect day. The starting point is all about them and what they want, what success means for them and how their dream life looks and feels. It can be different for everyone, so it’s important to know and understand what it is you are working toward achieving. If you focus on what you want to achieve, you are more likely to achieve it.
I believe it’s critical to keep your focus on your dreams, that way you’re constantly working toward designing your business so that you ultimately have your dream lifestyle.
Next … write down your dream in detail. Read this dream often. Keep it somewhere close by, and make sure you continually remind yourself of why you are doing what you are doing and what your BIG dream is.
When I started out in my business some 7 years ago, I had a dream to be able to have the flexibility to work from anywhere I choose. At first I set up my small office to work from home and it was wonderful to not have to travel each day to and from work. All of a sudden I felt as though I had many more hours in each day. Then as my business grew I started to get bogged down in the day-to-day of running my business and forgot about my dream of working from anywhere. After all, all I needed was (and still is) a laptop and a phone and I am able to work from any location. I made the fatal mistake of not reminding myself very often of my dream business and dream lifestyle.
One day I was researching flights to Cairns to travel to Port Douglas for a break. Port Douglas is a beautiful part of the world and I’d travelled there may times and intended to continue to travel there. It was at the moment of booking an airfare I remembered my dream.
I wondered if people would pay to come with me to Port Douglas, live in with me in luxury accommodation and work on their business. So, I advertised and had two ladies sign up within a couple of days. I called this a Residential that I would run for a week.
I’ve just completed facilitating my 7th Residential so my business is certainly giving me the flexibility and freedom I initially set out to achieve. After running each Residential I then stay on in beautiful Port Douglas for another week and take some time out as well as continuing to work from there. I feel very grateful for the lifestyle I have created.
Now I have my BIG dreams written down and read them often. I also make time (usually while I’m strolling along the beach) for myself to dream because I believe if you don’t dream, nothing happens.
Like planning a holiday … start with the end in mind. Choose where you want to go and work backwards from there. Set a plan in place to make your dream happen.
Dream. Believe. Achieve.
- Allow yourself time to dream
- Dream big – really big
- Believe in your heart your dreams will come to fruition
- Visualise your dreams
- Write them down
- Read them often
- Write out a plan to achieve your dreams
- Break down your plan into daily actions
- Be prepared to do whatever it takes to make your dreams a reality
- Keep taking action
- Never give up
- Do not accept any excuses you give yourself that may stop you achieving your dreams
Remember every action you take in your business must link back to your dreams. If you’re spending time on the things in your business that are not moving you toward your dreams and goals, ask yourself what you are doing and make the appropriate changes.
The universe will throw at you what you can handle – it will also support you to manifest your dreams. It will respond accordingly when you are consistently taking the right actions. It may not be easy to reach your dreams, in fact it will most likely take more time and energy than you first allow. When it gets tough, remind yourself why you had these big dreams in the first instance.
Never reduce your dreams. Instead be prepared to take more actions and step up even more when you need to. It will be worth your while.
Happy dreaming!
