40 years ago I married Patrick, the love of my life. We were young and very much in love after meeting 5 years earlier and spending as much time together as we could. We purchased a house in Cobram, a small country town and started making plans for the rest of our lives just as I imagine any newly married couple would do. We didn’t have much, a house, a mortgage, a car and each other. We had everything in front of us, everything to look forward to.
Seven months after our wedding Pat was killed in a tragic car accident. The driver of the car that hit the vehicle Pat was driving was also killed.
Two lives cut short.
In my eyes Pat is still 22 years old, and can never be any older.
Pat was a happy person who had an infectious smile and an absolute love of life. He used to say that we must live every day to the fullest because we might not be here tomorrow! Little did he know that his life would be cut short at such a young age.
I have wonderful memories of our time together. I look at the photo I have attached and smile – the clothes and the hair – golly!! How funny it is to look back now. I used to laugh with him then and here I am now still smiling!
And the reason for me writing this message today is that I want to share with as many people as I can, that we are all here for such a short time. I feel as though I have blinked and 40 years has passed by very quickly.
Do what ever you can in life to make a difference. Live every day to the fullest, knowing every minute is very special, very precious. Time heals the hurt of loosing someone close to you, and if you are going through a time in your life that you imagine you cannot get through, know that you will find the strength to get by. You will continue to live a full and fulfilling life. It is up to you to choose to have strength and to find happiness again in your life and you will.
