Experiencing the wonderful feelings of being on a holiday even though I’m working every day is something I experienced some years ago and now it has become a way of life.
Today I’m writing to you from Cairns, Far North Queensland, enjoying the sunshine and warm weather, while I spend a few weeks here instead of working from home in Melbourne during Winter.
Here I’m very aware I’m much more productive, as well as spending more time outdoors, eating deliciously fresh and healthy summer salads and fruit, exercising more, drinking more water, walking early each morning, (there is no need to rug up!) and thoroughly enjoying being near the sea in a place I call Paradise.
Being warm and happy new habits are formed, such as being out of bed early to enjoy the sunrise or morning light, meditating daily, practicing yoga, walking on the beach or boardwalk, reading and writing with more enthusiasm. (this light filled space gets the creative juices flowing!)
Being able to work from places that make me happy was a decision I made in the early stages of building my coaching business some years ago now, and over that time I’ve had many conversations with clients and others about how they too can do the same.
There is one thing I’ve learnt during these conversations, and that is, quite often people need permission to make changes to their habits and lifestyle.
For me, it has been easy. I choose somewhere I wish to spend more time and make the necessary arrangements, book my flights and accommodation and then make it happen. Sometimes it has been a place I wished to visit on my LifeList, such as Berlin, Paris, Broome, India, driving across The Nullarbor, Port Douglas, and Magnetic Island, or it is somewhere I have been many times and wish to revisit, just because I like spending time there.
What I know is when I’m somewhere warm and by the sea, I’m more energised and more creative and that is a space I really enjoy. You may prefer to spend time somewhere completely different.
We can all have feelings of being stuck and not having the flexibility we would like, however, I believe the important thing is to spend more time in places that make you happy.
And that space for me is somewhere where I have a smile on my face, a skip in my step and where I feel lighter and brighter and even more enthusiastic about life.
Where is your Paradise?
Where would you choose to spend more time?
I’ll go back to enjoying this beautiful place that lights up my soul and hope you are feeling the same about where you are right now.
