I attended the ANZAC day dawn service this morning and listening to the speakers inspired me to write about the ways I am inspired to write and encourage you to find inspiration in all the things around you to do the same.
As an entrepreneur you may be often challenged to find inspiration for writing content for your programs in such a way that is engaging, blogs, like this one, emails, newsletters and articles to engage your clients and connections. I believe that inspiration is all around you and it is realising that you can turn any situation or observation into a work of inspiration that can have you and your reader looking at the world in a different way.
Those of you who know me will know I love to take photos. Taking a lot of photos I have learnt to look. I mean really look. I look at everything and anything around me no matter how small or large. The same can be said for writing. Become more aware of things around you. If a thought comes to mind jot it down on paper, take a note on your phone or record your thoughts as a prompt so you have no chance of forgetting what you’ve have in your mind at that very point. Then at the first chance you can turn your notes or recording into a written article or script for a video.
If your article is not coming together or you believe you are not a good writer, take the first step, make a start and continue to practice. Imagine you are telling a story to one person. Remind yourself you are adding value to the life of the person you are writing to. Write as you would speak and just say it how it is.
Blogs and articles are a great way of staying connected with your list. You may be surprised just how many comments or reply emails you receive from the content you write. It really is all about staying connected. Even when you don’t get replies or comments you must continue to write believing that you have people out there who are reading your words with interest and know that you are adding value. People remember stories more than anything else. Connect by writing in such a way that it is a story.
Google blogging and you’ll get all sorts of does and don’ts and I’m sure there is some great content the tips there, however I suggest that if you are new to writing the most powerful thing you can do is make a start. You will develop your own style with time and you will connect by being yourself and being authentic. Become an observer of all things around you start typing or videoing your stories.
Happy writing!
